Communicating better ways to support women giving birth in Tanzania
Sonder Collective and Columbia University worked alongside birth teams in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, to design how birth companions can better support mothers.
Birth companions are regarded as key to a woman's emotional and clinical experience during labour. However, strained resources and the existing infrastructure have meant this has not always been possible for some pregnant women in Tanzania.
Our role was to visually communicate how the new model worked by providing guides and posters for the pregnant women, the birth companions and hospital staff. We created a set of illustrations that help guide the birth companions to support the labouring women in the best way possible.
